BTEC Comes to Scotland
After ten of his instructors travelled to the English midlands for the four modules of the Tri-Coaching BTEC in 2011, driving school manager Brian Smith said:
In the current climate if you were offered an investment opportunity where there was a strong possibility of getting your money back. And that possibility increased to at least twice your money back after two years and then each and every year thereafter... Would it be a consideration?
If you knew the course would increase your confidence in you and your ability… Give you new found or better beliefs in your own success as well as developing your coaching skills… How much value would you put on the course?
Brian was so impressed with the course that he has invited us to Scotland to give other instructors an opportunity to benefit.
The first Scottish Module is on April 23rd: Call 07889 194011 for full details or email: info@tri-coachingpartnership.co.uk
The way forward...
In 2010 the EU HERMES Project investigating Coaching in Driver Training published its final report. Since that time there has been an upsurge in interest in coaching for instructors across Europe.
Here in the UK the DSA have now stated that instructors should use a 'client-centred' approach to training, effectively coaching by another name.
Some instructors believe that coaching is a 'fad' that will pass - however, coaching is now mainstream in many areas of business and education and is firmly established, it is only a matter of time before it becomes the standard method of driver education across Europe.
Why is coaching important?
Traditional driver education deals mainly with vehicle handling and road procedure (driver behaviour) but lack of skill with these things are not the main factors in accident causation - accidents are caused because people make the wrong decisions (for a host of reasons).
Coaching addresses the behavioural issues that people face when learning to drive or improving their driving skills, but it also tackles the underlying thoughts and feelings that trigger the driver's behaviour. Because coaching works on a deeper
personal level than instruction it has a bigger effect on the drivers decision making skills. This effect is far more likely to last beyond the driving test and to make drivers safer.
Client-centred training is important for you because in times of tougher competition it can help you to raise your pass rate, set you apart from your local competition (giving you a business edge) and give you the peace of mind that your customers will be better prepared for a safer driving future.
Why choose Tri-Coaching?
There are lots of coaching courses springing up around the country, some are offered by ex-students of Sue, John and Graham, the Tri-Coaching team. The standards of the available courses vary, with many offering a good introduction to coaching - but the Tri-Coaching BTEC is the only officially recognised Professional Level Qualification available.
The Tri-Coaching BTEC offers you in-depth understanding and practical skills enabling you to deliver true client-centred training.
The Tri-Coaching BTEC is all about you.
Most of the time people are telling us what we need and never stop to consider what we want. But how can anyone supply what you want or need if they don't start the process by asking you?
We don't know what you want, but it could be one of the following:
- More job satisfaction
- A recognised professional qualification
- Increased efficiency at work
- A better customer experience for your pupils
- Increased earnings
- Enhanced reputation
- Better road safety
- A vocation not a job - a sense of value and worth
News: The Tri-Coaching BTEC is causing a stir in the industry - in September the course was visited by high level representatives of the following organisations: The DSA, AA Driving School, BSM, The
IAM and A2om - Sir John Whitmore also spent a day with the course saying that it offers a great opportunity for driver training. All of these organisations are gearing up for client-centred training, are you?
News: In addition to the organisations above, The Driving Instructor's Association (DIA) have gone one step further in their support and promotion modernisation of the driver training business with the attendance of Mike Frisby on the BTEC course. Mike, the DIAmond Advanced Motorists Chief Examiner is keeping a diary of his course experience in the DIA Driving Magazine - find out more about the DIA at www.driving.org.

Our aim is plain and simple - to help you to get more of what you want. How do we do this?
The answer to the question 'How do we do this?' might seem a little strange at first - we don't! We believe that you have the keys to your own success, our job is to help you to use those keys - your own potential - to unlock the barriers that might have been holding you back. In turn, you can learn to do the same for your pupils.
Bang goes the coaching theory!
When we sat down to develop our coaching programme we had three key principles in mind...
- It should be professional
- It should carry a recognised qualification
- It should be fun
- It should offer great value hence our Money back guarantee - if you don't learn anything on day-one we will refund you your fee, plain and simple.
Our course is designed for you, the working ADI, regardless of whether you teach learners, fleet, fork trucks, buses, high speed pursuit or any other form of driver training in the car or in the classroom. The ideas are practical and you will discover that you can apply them to your day-to-day work immediately.
We call the programme 'Bang Goes The Coaching Theory' because we believe that it will demystify the process, blow away the myths and help you to recognise that coaching can offer a range of 'hands-on' practical teaching tools. Our aim is not to replace your current skills, but to enhance them.
Unlike many coaching courses that are springing up which offer a self-certified attendance voucher, this course gives you a Professional BTEC (Level 4) Qualification in Coaching for Driver Education. The course is set up in such a way that there is always help at hand so that you can succeed and apply your training.
The good news we are here to help you have access to our unparalleled expertise and experience Tri-coaching partnership brings a welcome balance to this training delivered by the presenters who have written the course, allowing HFM to give you their first hand knowledge and experience.
